POLAND TO HOST MISS WORLD 2006
Contestants Set
For Countrywide Tour of Poland to Present Central European Spectacular.
The
Miss World Organisation is delighted to announce that Poland will host the Miss
World 2006 contest. This September, the most beautiful women from 120 countries
will travel to the heart of Central Europe to compete in Miss World 2006, the
longest-running and most prestigious festival to recognise the achievements of
young women.
Preparations are underway for a spectacular month-long tour
of the cities, lakes and landmarks that make Poland a land so rich in heritage,
culture and natural wonders. As ever, the highlight of the tour will be the 56th
Miss World Final, to be staged in historic Warsaw on 30th September.
Set
in the heart of Europe, Poland is a diverse country where the capital and medieval
towns nestle side by side with villages virtually unaltered by time. It is a modern,
vibrant and progressive state, which maintains its traditional culture and natural
beauty.
Miss World The Final is the Worlds largest live annual
TV event with global viewing figures topping two billion across more than 200
countries. With a record number of contestants anticipated to compete, Miss World
2006 will be the biggest event to take place in modern Poland and comes
with the seal of approval of event patron and Polish Prime Minister Kazimierz
Marcinkiewicz.
Miss World Organisation Chairman Mrs Julia Morley said:
Poland is a wonderful location for Miss World 2006. The people are tremendously
warm hearted and they are rightly proud of their beautiful country. Poland is
sure to welcome the contestants, who will take home many memories and wonderful
experiences from their time here. We will showcase the wonders of Poland to the
world.
While the tour is still in the planning stages, the contestants
could surely enjoy a range of attractions, from Poland s Baltic coastal
beaches in the north, to the great Mazurian Lakes or the rocky Tatra mountains
in the south. Elsewhere they can visit the green wilds of the Bieszczady region,
the breathtaking underground salt mine in Wieliczka, the wonders of Warsaw , with
its grand palaces, parks and churches, or the medieval beauty of second city Krakow
.
Elzbieta Wierzbicka, Chairman of the Miss Polonia Organisation said:
We are incredibly proud to host Miss World 2006 and to share the beauty
of our country with the people of the world. Poland will welcome the contestants
with a warmth and compassion for which Poles have become known. This is the greatest
event in Poland s recent history and the whole nation will unite to ensure
that it is a success.
During a recent visit to Warsaw , Miss World
2005 Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir was thrilled by the genuine warm hospitality
of the Poles. She toured the city and spent time with sick children at the Oncology
and Haematology Ward of the Independent Paediatric Clinical Hospital in Warsaw
.
Miss World has raised millions of pounds for charities around the globe
under the banner of its Beauty with a Purpose programme, and is credited
with directly influencing a dramatic increase in tourism in Sanya , China , home
to Miss World for the past three years.
A
modern Miss World is a role model for her generation who can inspire others to
make the best of themselves. What better place to host the contest than Poland
the home of former Miss World 1989 Aneta Kreglicka and birthplace of many
great names, including six Nobel Laureates.
Poland is a place where family
values are cherished highly and friendships last a lifetime. In spite of - or
maybe because of - a turbulent history and the changes shaping Polish society,
Poles have vigorously maintained a distinct sense of culture and community.
The
Poles have a proverb that translates as A guest in the home is God in the
home. This attitude will ensure that the Miss World contestants are welcomed
with warmth and affection.
Such a place is the ideal location to host the
planets largest festival of women, Miss World 2006.
